Beach Sand

Back from the Florida Watercolor Convention.  I always pick up a trick or two.  This is an example of rocks on the sand.  Masking fluid is randomly applied on the foreground as little round rocks.  The sand is painted with yellow, red and blue.  After the shine of the wet watercolor leaves, I sprinkled it with sea salt.  Then the paper is completely dried, the masking fluid is rubbed off and shadows of the rocks are painted on.

  1. What a neat way to do the sand! I think Florida sand is particularly hard to paint because it is so white or light gray. This makes it look interesting. Thanks for sharing!
